Hotstepper of the week
Farhad Humayun

Farhad Humayun spearheaded one of the fiercest and interesting musical acts around with Overload. But this week, it isn't because of Overload but The System that is keeping Farhad in the news.

With the lack of concerts, Farhad has actually taken the necessary step of doing things himself via The System. He describes it "as a platform where musicians can come and play". And this platform is not restricted to the big guns of the industry. Young upcoming acts in music will get a chance to open these shows. The first two shows of The System have already taken place. Upcoming youngsters like Vajiha, Simt and White Moghuls have had a chance to open shows for Co-VEN, Overload and Call. And this is just the beginning. There are plans to take The
System to Islamabad and Karachi and a documentary will also be shot of these concerts. And Farhad says that he will try to involve as many musicians as possible.

This really is a huge step, which will indeed benefit the music industry. With the economic crunch, security situations, massive shows have become impossible in Pakistan. In the aftermath of the Mumbai attacks, going
to India doesn't seem like an option for musicians anymore. Concerts generate revenue and publicity. They also help in increaing fan base. With The System in place, it seems things are finally looking up for the music industry. So this week Farhad Humayun is Instep's hotstepper of the week for taking the initiative of creating an environment where musicians can play on!
