FASHION UPDATE

Painting the town red … and black!

While white is always a hot favourite as spring and summer creep in and while a warm shade of yellow is 'the' colour of the upcoming season, it's actually red and black that is making splashes on fashion's colour palette these days. And that holds especially true for couture or evening wear as Giorgio Armani has focused on bringing these two colours together in his latest haute couture collection for spring/summer 2009 at Paris Fashion Week. He is one of many designers who are giving a thumbs up to this shade card. While Armani is bringing red and black to exorbitant evening gowns (all Oscar red caret contenders), designers in this part of the world are also incorporating them into their palettes. Then again, whether it is wedding season or Valentine's Day around the corner, red is a hot favourite always. The fact that vampires are also so in fashion with films like Twilight and serials like True Blood being popular amongst the younger lot makes the colours red and black even more desirable. But even if you're in your mature years and gowns or dresses hold no appeal for you, then the new range of Satya Paul saris (shown below) from India (available in Karachi and Lahore) have a very interesting black and red variety.
