Lights, camera, glamour and support!
A horde of celebrities - from the music, film, television, fashion and literati worlds - graced the red carpet at the KaraFilm Festival opening.

This year's Kara did not have the Bollywood factor, but Pakistani celebrities proved they can dazzle just as brightly!

Faisal and Seema Kapadia

"It's great! In this day and age, with the global economic recession and the fact that the sponsors have backed out, it's a credit to the Festival organisers for going ahead. As Karachiites we need to promote and support the arts!" said Faisal Kapadia of Strings. "We've become so used to things being sponsored - whether it's the arts or music - that we've forgotten how to do things without them, even though years ago that's how we did it."

Tariq Amin and Atiya Khan

Tariq Amin, who arrived with ex-supermodel Atiya Khan said, "It feels good to be here!" "It's happening and its good to see everyone together after ages, and that we've all come out in support of the Festival. And even if we don't have the Bollywood stars, we have enough glamour on our red carpet!"

Amean J

Amean J enthused, "It's fantastic to have it back!" when asked how he felt about Kara's return."I'm looking forward to the short films, especially Kalapul, which some of my friends have worked on."

Faisal Rafi with Jaffer Zaidi and Maaz Maudood of Kaavish

"All the sponsors who didn't support Kara... it's pretty sad, and it's s**t of them to not do so," said Faisal Rafi. "Hasan may not directly say it but the reason the sponsors backed out is because the Indians aren't coming. We're so enamoured with Bollywood, while they're burning CDs of our artistes. Their film industry doesn't need us! But unknowingly, we've done their music industry such a huge favour over the past few years - their playback singers were totally and still are forgotten. We need to support our filmmakers. The reason I came and people should come to support it is because it's a local festival that was started to support the local film industry. The security issues are there anywhere in the world. If people love music or films a security check shouldn't stop you!"
