While Fashion Pakistan may have done the country's first fashion week, one has to give Sehyr Saigol and the the Pakistan Fashion Design Council credit for pulling the first fashion week off in Lahore. That they did so via a corporate tie-up with Sunsilk and had buyers along with foreign press in attendance, shows how astute Sehyr is.
The undisputed queen bee of fashion in Lahore, Sehyr has clout and she knows how to use it, inviting the right people and networking with them and the designers to take fashion forward. The Boulevard, the PFDC store (with branches in Lahore and Karachi) in which designers rent space ensures that the fashion council isn't short of funds. Her fashion and lifestyle magazine, Libas, gets ads from designers that attract the attention of overseas clients. Libas is their connection to Pakistan. At fashion week, Sehyr took a backseat despite sitting in the front row. Her label presented a minute showcase; she didn't take to the ramp. Instead, she came on stage to give out the Libas Awards.
So Sehyr Saigol is our hotstepper this month, for steering her council wisely, commanding loyalty from designers, networking with people who will take the industry forward and for giving the historic city of Lahore its very first fashion week. We look forward to many more! |
