The relics of
Buddha’s life
Gandhara was the first civilisation to have spawned Buddhist art and
culture. The police caught around 300 pieces of artefacts worth billions,
which were recovered from a truck and a warehouse in Ibrahim Hyderi, last
week. Inspections have revealed
that the artefacts were dug out from southern Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,
in a bid to smuggle and sell them in the international market.

Mohammad Shah
Bukhari, head of the National Museum of Pakistan, informed Kolachi that most
of the relics depict the life of Buddha meditating and carrying out his
missionary activities. While the investigation in the smuggling case is under
way, Kolachi carries
a photo-feature of 2,000-year-old relics from the Gandhara civilisation,
whose real value is still unknown to many.
