Mix for the perfect match

Thank heavens for the fact that branded lawn has taken some nastiness out of the mix and match printed nightmares that textile mills used to generate. But though prints are a lot more refined now, that doesn't mean life is over for mix and match. It still exists but in varied forms. For one, it truly is fashionable to mix and match oddly contrasting colours and 'colour blocking' or playing around with solid tones is so very desirable this spring. Designers are talking about combinations of yellow gold and apple green or even watermelon red and aubergine purple. Let's think of it this way: if it exists in a bowl of summer fruits or vegetables, it is okay to exist in your wardrobe. Just make sure that the combinations keep the emsemble fresh and vibrant for summer, not dark and brooding. And if you're one of those rare women who are not excited by colour, then take solace in the fact than mixing and matching shades of white, bone, off white, cream and ecru is equally stunning…and perhaps more suited to summer when the mercury hits the sky line.Other than the clothes you wear, mix and match also prevails in designs: it is alright (and even cool) to wear your new harem pants with a simple t-shirtOr a voluptuous blouse(balloon sleeves and
ruffles et al)with tube trousers. Mix and match, after all is ideally about balance. Where jewellery is concerned, it is ever so stylish to mix and match your gold with your silver, as long as it is contemporary jewellery you are talking about. It makes for quite a heady combination.

Designers like Sana Safinaz are leading the way with their interpretations of how to design and wear that lawn suit, as is Sonya Battla who's shoot is on our Style pages. Check their cutting edge designs out and get inspired.

So don't forget to experiment with your wardrobe this summer: remember you are supposed to be having fun with your clothes not the other way around! Opposites just don't attract in human relationships, you know!
