BIG 5
5 annoying songs that kill you softly
Hundreds of songs are produced everyday worldwide, and only a
handful of them go on to win awards and gain global recognition.
However, there are also the songs that make your ears bleed, want
to kill yourself and inspire odes of hate. Instep presents a selection
of the five most annoying songs to be released in recent memory.

1.
'Tum To Tehre Pardesi' – Altaf Raja
Even
thinking about this song makes one want to cringe. Altaf Raja's
'Tum To Tehre Pardesi' is possibly one of the worst songs
to have ever been released. Featuring bad vocals and bad lyrics
and a video that drove one up the wall, it somehow received
unexplainably huge amounts of airplay. Perhaps it was because
it sounded like a throwback to bad '80s music or had an overdose
of 'cheap' quotient to it - it remains to be the most annoying
song ever! |

2. 'Shano
Shano' – OST: Yuvvraaj
While
Yuvvraaj was insipid, tacky and reeked of bad acting and a
silly plotline, the music was even worse. One can't fathom
what exactly was going through the minds of recent Oscar winners
A.R.Rahman and Gulzar - the men behind the Yuvvraaj soundtrack
- when they penned these songs, but the soundtrack would have
shocked the Oscar jury had they ever heard it. Notable among
the annoying songs in Yuvvraaj was 'Shano Shano', a song that
features such literary lyrics such as 'andar andar, beech
samandar, dubki khaye tu' and whose theme appeared to be imploring
'Shano' to 'get awwn tha floor!' For a while the mystery of
who exactly Shano was remained unsolved, but a trailer for
the film revealed that said Shano was actually Zayed Khan's
character in Yuvvraaj. But back to the song: while one can't
help but being hooked onto the chorus (guilty pleasure), the
song's meaningless and idiotic lyrics and the wailing lines
thrown into the middle such as 'pyaaaaaala pyaaaaaaala...
meh ka pyaaaaaaaaala' make 'Shano Shano' a prime candidate
for the most annoying song to have been released in 2008. |

3.
'Ghoom Tana' – Salman Ahmed
'Ghoom
Tana' was a great song by Junoon.
Ali's vocals - fantastic.
All the makings of a hit? Yes.
And then came Salman Ahmed. The man who proved on the Deewar
album that Junoon's heyday had come to an end, decided to
re-release 'Ghoom Tana', except it featured his own vocals.
And while Salman is an accomplished and feted guitarist, singing
is just not his cup of tea. So much so that when the out of
tune, wailing version of 'Ghoom Tana' was released one couldn't
help but wonder why no one had stopped Salman from releasing
this awful, awful version. |

4.
'Kaho Na Kaho' – OST: Murder
'Kaho
Na Kaho' would have been better off had no one actually 'kaho-ed'
the song. The mix between Arabic and English just didn't work,
because there's a lot better fusion music out there in these
two languages than 'Kaho Na Kaho'. It was such a terribly
bad Indian film song that it served as a befitting soundtrack
to the equally bad ripoff that the film Murder was. |

'Dosti' – Atif Aslam
With
this horrendous cover of Junoon's hit 'Dosti', Atif Aslam
not only made ears bleed, but put one off the idea of ever
wanting to hear the original song again. What Mr Aslam was
thinking when he decided to force this song on an unsuspecting
public is beyond comprehension, but one does hope that he
never repeats this mistake again. Atif's screechy vocals couldn't
even match up to the song, and perhaps that's why such beloved
songs should never be covered: they can never match upto the
original. Though Atif proved that far from matching Ali Azmat's
vocals on 'Dosti', he could only prove the old adage true:
'old is gold!' |
