Props, stilt dancers, fairytale ambiance... LFW finale spelt grandeur

Curtains were drawn on the five-day fashion extravaganza Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) in a grand way by Delhi-based designers Gauri and Nainika Karan. The runway was transformed into the setting of a fairytale complete with props, lights and of course the surreal garments.

The show that had first row occupants like Bipasha Basu, Zayed Khan, Suzzane Roshan and Sanjay Khan, among others, was called the Fantasy collection.

“We are very excited to have collaborated with Lakme for this. Doing a grand finale is a designer’s dream. The whole theme of fantasy was very exciting for Gauri and me to create because we have always dreamt of wearing gowns like these. There were no boundaries to our creativity in this and so it was absolutely wonderful,” Nainika told IANS.

The grand finale encompassed a lot of drama, action and entertainment with models strutting the ramp in angelic gowns and dresses. The highlight of the show apart from the outfits was the performance by two stilt dancers, who thoroughly enthralled the audiences with their mind blowing performance, trying to create a whimsical world of fairytales and fantasy.

The colour palette for the collection was designed in soft pastel shades with feminine tones, including a mix of greens, blues, pinks, yellows and whites, bringing alive the dreamy theme of the garments. Tulle was prominently used to create dresses with cascading hemlines, making them look fragile yet sculpted.
The silhouettes that were showcased in the show ranged from sharp cocktail dresses with spiraling drapes and textures to dramatic red carpet styles, which are the signature styles of Gauri and Nainika.

On the whole, the show was worth a watch where the designers also got a standing ovation by the audience at the end of the grand show, ending LFW Summer-Resort 2011.
