How I Met Your Mother
*ing Neil Patrick Harris, Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Alyson Hannigan, Cobie Smulders
This show will possibly go down in history as being fairly legen-wait for it-DARY! Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris) and his friends return in this show's sixth season as Ted (Radnor) still remains on his quest to find the mother of his children. The season looks set to be fairly interesting as the notorious Barney has finally entered into a relationship with Robin (Smulders) and Ted embarks on a new career as a professor of architecture, and he does reveal that this is how he met his future wife. The highlight of the show's season so far has been the episode with the doppelgangers.
Watch out for: Any sign of Ted's prospective wife. Get the conspiracy theories rolling!
Gossip Girl
*ing Blake Lively, Chace Crawford, Ed Westwick, Leighton Meester, Jessica Szohr, Penn Badgely
It's our one and only source into the scandalous lives of Manhattan's elite. This cultfavourite show has garnered unlikely fans amongst age brackets and gender groups. While the third season looked set to be slightly off since the show's cast has now primarily moved to college, the show's producers have made it work well with having at least four of the characters go to New York University: Blair, Dan, Vanessa and the evil, evil Georgina. Serena opts out of going to college and Chuck decides to step into his late father's shoes to try and be an erstwhile businessman as opposed to a womanizer. And the tables have definitely turned on the cast after graduating from high school: Serena's adrift and utterly devoid of common sense, Carter has reformed and become a mature, sensitive guy, Blair is (gasp!) unpopular, and (shock and surprise) Dan is actually the most popular freshman at NYU. Who would've thought?
Watch out for: Cameos by Sonic Youth, Tyra Banks and Hilary Duff.
Grey's Anatomy
*ing Patrick Dempsey, Ellen Pompeo, Katherine Heigl, Sandra Oh
After an exemplary fifth season, Grey's Anatomy returns for its sixth outing on television. Fans of the show were definitely looking forward to see what would ensue after the cliff-hanger finale for the show, which had both Izzie and George dying. But the sixth season opens with only one of them surviving. It also has weaved in the economic recession and rising unemployment rate in the US as the recession begins to effect Seattle Grace, the hospital where this motley crew of doctors work at. In yet more surprises, McDreamy and Meredith are actually happy in this season, having exchanged vows on a Post-It in the fifth season and truly believing that they're married now. How the show - and its characters - recover from George being killed off will probably make up the first half of this season.
Watch out for: A full shot of Ellen Pompeo (Meredith). It won't happen, since the star is pregnant in real life.
Entourage
*ing Adrian Grenier, Jerry Ferrara, Kevin Dillon, Kevin Connolly, Jeremy Piven
Entourage may have been one of the more frivolous shows to have aired on television, but it has truly come of age in the past season and in the current one on air. Dealing with the life of a rich and famous actor and his entourage of friends in Hollywood, this all-too-real depiction took quite a morose turn as its star, Vincent Chase (Grenier) found himself out of work and slipping into obscurity. The crash back to reality for Grenier and his friends has played out well in the sixth season, even though Chase has finally scored a hit film.
The characters of Jerry Ferrara (Turtle) and Kevin (Eric) have been explored extremely well in this season, and instead of the glitz and glamour that accompanied the show's initial seasons, there have been several poignant - even tear-jerker - scenes in this one. Could the boys finally be maturing? It certainly seems so.
Watch out for: How Ari Gold (Piven) gets even more control over Hollywood, if he buys out another agency
The Office
*ing Steve Carrell, Rainn Wilson, Ed Krasinski, Ed Helms, Jenna Fischer
This American version of the British television hit The Office has become an award winner in its own right. The Office has won kudos for its exemplary scripts and direction, and this season is no exception. There are plenty of shake-ups in store at the Scranton branch of the Dunder-Mifflin paper company, with Jenna Fischer and Ed Krasinski (Pam and Jim) having a baby and Michael (Carell) having to share his coveted and much-loved title of Manager with someone else. This is perhaps one of the best shows on television right now, and it'll definitely strike a chord with bosses and employees alike!
Watch out for: Jim and Pam's wedding. We bet Michael will do something to take all the glory away from the bride!
