KUJ to hold protest meetings from today

KARACHI: Journalists and press workers would start holding protest meetings from Monday against the government's action against press freedom and registration of sedition cases against Jang, Amn and Parcham.

Secretary Action Committee of Karachi Union of Journalists Ahfazur Rehman announced that the first protest meeting will be held at Karachi Press Club on Monday at 2.30 pm. Later, the protesters will lit candles and first token hunger strike would be staged at KPC for 24 hours. The hunger strike camp would be joined by different groups of newsmen every day.

Secretary Action Committee of KUJ has appealed to all democratic forces, organizations, trade unions, writers, intellectuals, teachers, professors, lawyers, artists, women organizations and non-governmental organizations to join the protest meeting and hunger strike camp to express solidarity with the press.

Meanwhile, trade union leaders, S P Lodhi of APTUO, Farid Awan, Aziz Memon, Jalil Shah of KPT Workers Union (CBA), Karamat Ali of PILAR, Zulfiqar Khaimkhani, Riaz Ahsan of SPLA, Manzoor Razi, Dr Rasheed Hasan Khan, Usman Baloch, Zia Awan, Agha Jafar, Mehmoodul Hasan of KBA, intellectuals M B Naqvi, Prof Haroon Rasheed, Anis Zaidi, Salma Noorani and Salim Raza have announced their support to the protest movement of KUJ.
