Queen Camilla honours survivors of sexual abuse at Wash Bags project reception

Queen Camilla delivered a poignant address to attendees gathered at a reception honouring survivors of sexual abuse, marking a significant moment as the Wash Bags Project was reintroduced.

The Queen consort of the United Kingdom gave a ceremony at Buckingham Palace to honour advocates for victims of sexual assault and to celebrate the project's relaunch, which she started back in 2013.

The official social media accounts of the Royal Palace dropped a glimpse of the event where she addressed, saying, “ Every year in England and Wales alone, nearly eight hundred thousand women and two hundred and seventy-five thousand men suffer attempted, or actual assault.”

She continued, “Although the true figures are likely to be much higher.”


Queen Camilla also highlighted the aim of the Wash Bag initiative to create something, that “would be a crumb of a comfort to those finding themselves, in a horrendous position.”

She added, “The phrase ‘the kindness of strangers at a very dark time’ is, to me, the guiding principle of everything that you all do.”

In her speech, Queen expressed her gratitude, “Thank you for sharing your stories, thank you for your kindness, thank you for not remaining strangers to those enduring the darkest of times.”

For the unversed, through the Wash Bag project, a bag containing essential toiletries is distributed to the Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCs) across the country.
