Charli XCX has stepped forward to clarify the rumours that she is penning the song for Britney Spears.
While conversing at Monday’s episode of Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, the Speed Driver songstress revealed that she had been writing songs that she had thought were meant for the Toxic singer.
Charli XCX shared, “Well, yes, but it leaked to the press.”
She added, “Britney then did this post where she was like, ‘I don’t have random people write for me.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, OK, go off!’ So I don’t know that she was part of the process.”
The Hot In It songstress further noted, “Her team were running before they could walk.”
However, in August, shortly after the Criminal singer and her ex-husband, Sam Asghari, announced their separation, rumors started circulating that Spears was recording a new album.
The claims ignited in January after Rolling Stone reported that Charli XCX and Julia Michaels were among those working on music for Spears’ supposed album.
“As of right now, she’s not actively in recording, but they’re getting [songs] done to present to her,” a source told the publication.
They added, “The hype around this is that everyone wants her to make music again, but I don’t know if she’s there yet.”
It is worth noting here that Britney Spears is not collaborating with Charli XCX, but the Official singer is hopeful about working with her.
