A vicar in Hampshire, England, leaves young school kids in tears after telling them the reality of Santa Claus.
According to Independent, a vicar named Reverend Dr. Paul Chamberlain made sixth-grade kids upset and their parents angry after he told students that Santa is not “real.”
Chamberlain visited Lee-on-the-Solent Junior School this week to talk about the birth of Jesus with the students in their religious education class. During the lesson, he told the children, “You’re all year six; now let’s be real: Santa isn’t real.”
He further explained that it is their parents who are eating the cookies they left out for Father Christmas. This shocking revelation left 10- and 11-year-old kids heartbroken, and many of the children burst into tears.
Following this, the parents of the children filed a formal complaint against Rev. Chamberlain, who argued that he had “ruined Christmas” for the kids. A mother said, “I don’t know how it can be undone, but I think it’s absolutely disgusting.”
Later, a spokesperson for the Diocese of Portsmouth issued a statement and said that the vicar had apologised to everyone for his act.
He asserted, “Paul has accepted that this was an error of judgment and he should not have done so. He apologised unreservedly to the school, to the parents and to the children, and the headteacher immediately wrote to all parents to explain this.
Furthermore, the school has also given out “believe” badges to the kids to restore the festive spirit.
