Rockstar Games has finally addressed the ongoing wave of GTA 6 leaks that continues to swirl online over the past week, admitting that the unauthorized gameplay footage has been “heartbreaking” for the development team.
Taking to Instagram on August 26, Rockstar Games issued a statement just one day ahead of the game’s Netflix Extended Look, slated for August 27.
Rockstar confirmed that the leaked footage is genuine and acknowledged that the material could affect the experience it originally planned to deliver to fans.
The statement read, “We know that many of you have been waiting to hear from us regarding the events of the past week. It would be an understatement to say that having videos of Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay leak in this way has been heartbreaking for our team, and this is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time.”
The team further issued an apology, stating, “We are very sorry that everything has taken as long as it has — from getting the game finished (nearly there!) to sharing more details and official gameplay, and providing the community with everything you want to know.”
The leaks have been linked to an individual known online as CyberLeek, who has continued releasing footage and statements despite Rockstar issuing takedown notices against accounts sharing the material.
While the leaked clips have revealed several aspects of GTA 6, Rockstar hopes fans will continue to anticipate the official presentation.
Furthermore, the company expressed excitement, writing, “We are very excited for everyone to see the extended look tomorrow. It has taken longer than we wanted to get it ready, but as with everything we do, we know we need to exceed your expectations, and we are determined to deliver at the level you expect and deserve.”
Despite the setback, the studio showed gratitude towards fans who remained their firm support during the controversy.

GTA 6 is currently slated to release on November 19, making tomorrow’s official showcase one of the biggest opportunities yet for Rockstar to rebuild excitement regarding the eagerly awaited release.
