A terrible road accident has occurred near Edinburgh Airport, prompting an immediate closure of Edinburgh Airport that led to three people being rushed to hospital.
In the early hours of Monday, a serious crash happened, which closed A8 in both directions between Newbridge roundabout and Edinburgh Airport after a crash at around 9.25am.
As per the spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service, two special operations response teams, a paramedic response unit and a critical care paramedic were dispatched to the scene.
People who were coming to this route were diverted via M8 and around via Gogar to access the airport, as per Traffic Scotland.
A report suggested a police helicopter was spotted at the scene as drivers have been strongly recommended to use alternative routes after heavy traffic backed up in the area.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), a spokesperson for Edinburgh Airport stated “Delays getting to the airport are expected.
“We’re working closely with the emergency services and relevant partners to manage access to the airport following this incident.”
“Passengers should allow additional time to reach the airport and consider alternative routes or modes of transport where possible. Anyone concerned about their travel plans should contact their airline directly for the latest advice.”
“We appreciate the disruption this will cause and will continue to work with Police Scotland and other partners throughout the day,” the statement added.
A Police Scotland spokesperson stated, “The A8 is closed at Newbridge following a report of a serious crash around 9.25am on Monday, 7 September, 2026. Emergency services are in attendance and diversions are being put in place.”
“Motorists are advised to use another route.”
