Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake announced for Switch 2 release on November 5

Nintendo has officially confirmed that a ground-up remake of “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time” will launch exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026.

Revealed during a dedicated Legend of Zelda Nintendo Direct showcase, the announcement finally sets a concrete launch date for one of the most anticipated titles coming to Nintendo’s next-generation console.

Modern graphics meets classic gameplay

Built entirely from scratch, the remake abandons the original Nintendo 64 polygonal look in favor of a modern, stylized realism art direction. The game features completely overhauled environmental lighting, high-resolution visual textures and redesigned character models.

In addition to visual upgrades, gameplay mechanics have been modernized to include manual jumping, dashing, motion-controlled aiming and instant item-swapping.

Nintendo is also introducing a new “Threads of Time” quest log feature to help players track their adventures and story milestones across Hyrule.

Holiday launch strategy

Landing on November 5, the release places the title right at the start of the key holiday shopping season. Positioned just ahead of late-year blockbuster releases, Nintendo is treating this complete rebuild of its 1998 classic as a marquee system seller for the Switch 2.
