Reigning Miss Austria Lucia Sisic has passed away at the age of 22.
According to New York Post, the Mission Austria organization announced the shocking passing of Sisic in an emotional statement on Monday, September 7.
It said, “It is with great shock and deep sadness that we have learned of the passing of our Miss Austria 2024, Lucia Sisic.”
Cause of death
An official cause of death has not been revealed, but Sisic has been open about her health struggles, having been born with a heart valve defect that required her to undergo several surgeries during her life.
The organization also sent its condolences to her family, friends, and supporters. CEO Kerstin Rigger and her husband, Jörg, signed the announcement, which ended by noting that Lucia will always be a member of the Miss Austria family.
“Lucia will be remembered as a wonderful young woman. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to her family, friends, and all those close to her during this difficult time,” said the post, signed by Mission Austria CEO Kerstin Rigger and her husband Jörg.
Sisic won Miss Vienna in January 2024, and Miss Austria in September at Vienna Fashion Week.
She revealed in interviews that the jury did not know about her illness, since she did not want it to influence their choice.
Since there was no national pageant in 2025 and 2026 due to a lack of sponsors, as reported by oe24, Sisic remained Miss Austria until her death.
