Walmart has expanded a recall of its Great Value frozen fruit products, citing E.Coli O145 contamination concerns about one lot of Frozen Organic Triple Berry Blend.
The recall includes 10-ounce packages of Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend, including strawberries, blackberries and blueberries.
The affected products have UPC 7874211226, lot code 6040 01-6 and a “best if used by” date of February 9, 2028.
The products were distributed to some Walmart stores across 16 US states such as Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas and Wisconsin.
The recall was announced as a precautionary measure after traceback information connected to an earlier recall of frozen organic IQF blueberries from the same company, Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A.
What is E. coli O145?
E. coli O145 is a Shiga toxin-producing strain that causes symptoms including severe stomach cramps, diarrhea and vomiting.
While many people recover within a week, infections can sometimes lead to serious complications, especially among the youth and immunosuppressed individuals..
Consumers who have the affected berry blend are advised not to eat it. They should either throw the product away or return it to Walmart for a full refund.
Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur stated it is working with regulatory authorities and customers to manage the recall. The company has also stated that it has not received any reports of illness linked to the recalled product so far.
