Donald Trump has urged Americans to "get out and vote" ahead of the midterm elections, and reiterated his promise to deliver a $5,000 "dividend" if the Republicans retain control.
He said he was prepared to "cheat like hell" and get his family and friends out and vote Republican, and led the crowd in repeating a pledge to vote in the midterms on 3 November.
Declaring that the US has "never done better", Trump said the US had earned "trillions of dollars" that would support the dividend.
“If we win the midterms we will provide a Trump dividend, $5,000 for every adult citizen in our country”, he said, adding "we love our adults".
Trump urged voters to "pretend" he's on the ticket and do him the "biggest favour" by turning out to vote Republican in the midterms.
He also promised to make tax cuts permanent.
Republican senator slams promise
Republication Senator Susan Collins has criticised Donald Trump's plan to pay all US adults $5,000, as the proposal divides the party.
The Maine Senator said the policy, that Trump said would only be put into place if the Republicans kept control in the November 2026 midterm elections, would be "extraordinarily costly".
"From the few details we have, it seems that the proposed $5,000 dividend would not have an income cap and would be extraordinarily costly," she said in a statement.
"Tax and spending decisions should be made based on the needs of the American people and the state of the economy, they should not appear to be tied to election results."
The US president also described the crowd at the convention as huge and became briefly distracted by a flash of skin visible through the hair on his head.
