Saudi authorities briefly issued emergency security warnings across major western regions on Tuesday, September 15. The alerts covered the holy city of Makkah alongside the governorates of Jeddah and Taif, urging residents to stay cautious following potential aerial attack threats.
Emergency alerts and rapid response
The warnings were broadcast through the kingdom’s National Early Warning Platform. Citizens and visitors in the affected cities were instructed to take shelter inside sturdy buildings, stay clear of open areas or windows and follow strict official guidance.
The precautionary step marked the first emergency security alert issued in Makkah since regional military tensions escalated. However, Saudi Civil Defense confirmed shortly afterward that the threat had passed lifting all emergency advisories across Makkah, Jeddah and Taif.
Escalating regional tensions
The brief security scare follows an intensification of cross-border attacks. A day earlier, a series of ballistic missiles and drone strikes launched by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi movement struck southern Saudi Arabia, leaving 13 people injured.
Saudi air defense systems remain on high alert to secure major cities, economic hubs and religious sites as broader regional security concerns continue.
Authorities have reassured the public that security protocols are maintaining full operational readiness to handle any potential air threats.
