Bollywood stars Suniel Shetty and Preity Zinta have added a new chapter to their careers by taking on meaningful roles.
On Wednesday, September 16, Hindustan Times reported that the two stars have been selected to become members of the Central Board of Film Certificates (CBFC) in a major update.
As per the report, 18 new members have been appointed to the CBFC, including several well-known names from the Indian film industry.
The list includes Suniel Shetty, Preity Zinta, Pankaj Tripathi, and Roopali Ganguly among many others.
This development comes as the government has reconstituted the film-certification body for the first time in nearly a decade.
The previous CBFC board was established back in 2017. However, over the years its number of active members had declined because of deaths and vacancies.
But the latest appointments have now brought in a new group of members to work alongside the recently-appointed Chairperson Shashi Shekhar Vempati.
In a letter issued by the Government of India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, it was stated, “In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 3 of the Cinematograph Act, 1952 (37 of 1952) read with rule 3 of the Cinematograph (Certification) Rules, 2024, the Central Government is pleased to reconstitute the Central Board of Film Certification as follows with immediate effect for a period of 3 years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.”
The notification then mentioned names of the newly-appointed members, which include Vinod Anupam, Manoj Joshi, Abhishek Jain, Ricky Kej, Priyadarshan, Suniel Shetty, Hansraj Hans, Supriya Yariagadda, Yatindra Mishra, Roopali Ganguly, Preity Zinta, Nila Madhab Panda, Pankaj Tripathi, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Pallavi Joshi, Nishigandha Wad, Waman Kendre, and Ramesh Patange.
For the Border star and the Veer Zaara actress, the new roles mark a major move beyond their familiar work as Bollywood actors.
