An independent commission has found Manchester City guilty on 114 of 115 charges brought by the Premier League over financial breaches.
The landmark decision follows a multi-year investigation and a lengthy tribunal process into allegations spanning nine seasons between 2009 and 2018.
Potential penalties & relegation ‘nuclear option’
The charges cover failing to provide accurate financial information, hiding true player and manager compensation packages, violating UEFA financial rules and failing to cooperate with the Premier League’s range from heavy fines and severe points deductions to the nuclear option: expulsion from the Premier League and stripping past titles.
Legal experts note that given the magnitude of the breaches, a substantial sporting penalty remains highly probable.
City prepares legal appeal
In response to the verdict, Manchester City reiterated their stance, maintaining that the process remains ongoing and subject to strict confidentiality.
The reigning champions are expected to launch a formal appeal. However, under Premier League rules, the club must appeal through an internal independent panel and cannot take the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
