Will Reeve has opened up about his painful cancer battle for the first time.
Speaking to PEOPLE for a Tuesday, September 29 interview, the Good Morning America anchor revealed that he was diagnosed with testicular cancer, which forced him to undergo treatments.
The 34-year-old GMA correspondent faced several hardships while growing up as his father, the late actor Christopher Reeve, was left paralyzed after a horse-riding accident when Will was just two-year-old.
Two years after his father’s death, his mother, Dana Reeve, died from lung cancer.
While speaking to the outlet, Will shared, “Watching my parents up close take the adversity they faced in their lives and repurpose it into something hopeful left a major impact on my life and how I try to live it.”
He then revealed that he was diagnosed with testicular cancer this spring, with the disease later spreading to the lymph nodes in his abdomen.
The Superman star, who finally became cancer free earlier this month, opened up about his difficult health battle, stating, “I have felt so loved and supported and rooted for by family, friends and strangers alike for my entire life. And that’s a big part of why I wanted to speak about this. I’m going to be fine. But this was a heck of a chapter.”
Will Reeve shared that he first noticed a painful lump on one side of his testicle while showering back in April. However, he let it slide at the time thinking of it as something not so alarming and would disappear with the time.
But his wife, Amanda Dubin Reeve, whom he married in January 2026, forced him to have an ultrasound, after which doctors confirmed the cancer and asked him to undergo a procedure.
“I was stunned. I hadn’t had surgery since I got my tonsils out at 5. So I was more nervous about the unknown of the surgery rather than the overwhelming realization that I would be losing an essential part of my body forever,” he said.
The actor then revealed that he underwent an orchiectomy in May to remove the cancerous testicle.
He proudly credited his wife for encouraging and convincing him to get checked, stating, “We talk about ‘in sickness and in health.’ We got an early test of our vows, just a few months in.”
The Everyone’s Hero star revealed that he received cancer treatment at the same hospital where his mother passed away of lung cancer two decades ago.
He said, “The irony is not lost on me that 20 years after my mom died of lung cancer at Memorial Sloan Kettering, there I was in the same building getting treated for cancer.”
Will explained that he felt he was experiencing both of his parents’ journeys at once, gaining insights into his mother’s cancer battle while also relying on his wife for the kind of care his father once received from his family.
Concluding the interview, Will said, “For all the people who care about me, I’m so grateful and also ask that any sympathy one might have be channeled into love and care for those closest to them, because we all need to love and care for the people in our lives.”
