This year’s VMAs are all set to be an unforgettable affair as Taylor Swift is bringing the ultimate entertainment to the glamorous night.
The Fate of Ophelia hitmaker, who is the most-awarded artist at MTV Video Music Awards, took to her official Instagram Stories on Sunday, September 27, to fuel anticipation for her appearance at the event by sharing an exciting update.
In the Story, the Cruel Summer singer announced that her brand-new music video for her newly released song Patient Zero is set to premiere at the VMAs 2026 on Sunday night.
For those unfamiliar, Patient Zero is one of the four tracks which were released as part of Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore.
In the video update, which was recorded in March, the 14-time Grammy winner can be heard noting that she was figuring out a way to release the music video on TV.
She even jokingly asked, “Google, when are the VMAs?”
At the time, it appeared to be a spontaneous idea rather than a confirmed plan. However, now, the idea eventually became reality as Patient Zero will actually premiere at the 2026 MTV VMAs tonight.
“Walking through here and seeing the way that [Emmanuel Lubezki’s nickname] Chivo has lit this and the way the sets are and how brilliantly he has done this production design, I’m kind of rethinking the release of the video. Like, I need to figure out a way to get this on TV or something,” she said.
The video then saw the songstress asking, “I’m just, sort of, like, ‘Google, when are the VMAs?”
Patient Zero music video, which stars Swift alongside Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell, adds another dimension to the singer’s latest era.
It places her firmly behind the camera, with the Blank Space singer directing the project herself.
The song’s release at the VMAs also mark a significant moment in Taylor Swift’s visual storytelling career as she is also set to receive the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors at the event, which will recognize her work behind the camera and her contribution to music-video direction.
