A video of Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivhayo’s multimillion-dollar shopping trip at Jacob & Co has gone viral again following his death.
Chivayo and his wife Lucy Muteke died on 30 September 2026 when their private helicopter crashed near Marondera. All six people on board lost their lives. The couple is due to be buried side by side at Glen Forest Cemetery in Harare on Thursday, 8 October 2026.
The July shopping spree
In July 2026, Chivhayo visited Jacob & Co’s headquarters in Geneva. He was personally hosted by the brand’s founder, Jacob Arabo. During the visit, Chivhayo spent about $4.3 million on luxury watches.
The most expensive piece was the Billionaire Double Tourbillon, valued at roughly $3.4 million. Other models included rare Caviar Tourbillon and Bugatti-related timepieces.
Chivhayo shared a video of the experience, captioning it with his usual flair and calling the moment a blessing.
Posts quietly removed
Shortly after news of the crash broke, Jacob & Co deleted all Instagram content linked to Chivhayo. The brand has not explained the decision.
A resurfaced clip from the Geneva visit now shows Chivayo discussing future payments for some of the watches. Online users quickly linked the deleted posts to possible unpaid balances, though the company has not confirmed this.
Final arrangements
Family spokesperson Herbert Chivhayo confirmed that forensic identification is complete. The remains were severely damaged by fire, so there will be no public viewing.
The couple will be buried in separate graves next to each other. The funeral is open to the public.
The return of the luxury watch video has once again put Chivhayo’s extravagant lifestyle and business dealings under the spotlight in the days leading to his burial.
