Selena Gomez has finally spilled the truth behind her voice change.

The Only Murders in the Building actress took to her official Instagram Stories on Sunday, October 18, to post a video of herself, sharing the real reason why her voice sounds changed from how it used to be back in the days.

Gomez, who had previously been citing medical reasons behind her voice change, revealed that she used to vape nicotine, which changed how she sounds.

“I’m not gonna be able to change my voice. I vaped nicotine a lot,” she began.

The Who Says singer continued, “Nicotine is so hard to quit, and I think I just wanted to say, if you’re going through it or if you’re even trying to vape, it’s just not worth it. It’s so stupid. It changed my voice. So if you guys don’t like listening to my voice, that’s totally understandable. I don’t mind. Just don’t listen to it.”

She went on to share, “But I am really excited because I stopped and I just hope I can keep it up. If you are going through something, you can get through it too.”

“It sucks,” the singer exclaimed.

Selena Gomez cites medical reasons behind her voice change

In December 2025, Selena Gomez cited medical reasons behind her voice change, after fans began noticing major changes in her facial features, voice and demeanor over the years, speculating her to be a clone.

During an Instagram Live session, the Sunset Blvd singer shared, “I’ve gotten this question a few times. The voice thing. Sometimes things happen. I get weird. My throat kind of swells inside sometimes. That’s all.”

She also stated that her diagnosis with lupus, chemotherapy treatments, and the 2017 kidney transplant led to major physical changes like weight fluctuation and “moon face,” which interne conspiracy theories try to misrepresent.
