TMZ has issued an apology for the “laughter” that was herd during the live streaming of Chaile Kirk’s death.
According to Newsweek, the outlet has disputed accusations that its newsroom erupted in laughter in response to the news of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk being shot.
The outlet on Wednesday said that while reporters were covering the news on a livestream, others who were heard cheering in the background were watching a car chase.
"We want to make it clear...they were not cheering in response to the assassination," TMZ's statement read. "Nevertheless ... watching a car chase at that moment was tone deaf, and the sounds of laughter at that crucial moment were totally out of line."
In a separate video "Addressing tone deaf laughter" posted on X, TMZ "apologized for the way it sounded."
Kirk's killing has deepened fears about the country's escalating climate of political violence and has sparked condemnation from leaders across the spectrum.
