Southwest Airlines confirmed on Monday that one of its flight attendants died during a layover in Hawaii.
The flight attendant was identified as 50-year-old Jennifer Lupton, and the Honolulu Police Department confirmed they are investigating the incident as an unattended death.
According to the Honolulu Police Department, the unattended death investigation was opened Aug. 20 in Waikiki.
"This is a thorough investigation that will take time. Detectives are conducting numerous interviews, reviewing and recovering surveillance video, and examining evidence as part of the investigative process," the department said in a statement.
HPD further said it would be limiting the release of certain information while the investigation is still ongoing.
The airline has offered support to Lupton's family and co-workers and are engaged with local authorities as they investigate, the airline said.
"The Southwest Airlines family is deeply saddened by the passing of our colleague during a layover in Hawaii," the statement reads.
