Earl Charles Spencer has shared a rare glimpse of Princess Diana’s resting place at Althorp, offering a poignant look at the peaceful island where his late sister was buried in 1997.
Princess Diana’s brother took to his Instagram account to post a historic image of Althorp’s Oval Lake, showing the serene spot surrounded by towering trees.
The post comes as Althorp prepares to close to visitors for winter on August 31, marking 29 years since Diana’s death in 1997.
A handwritten annotation on the vintage photograph identifies the "Admiralty Summer House" visible across the lake.
Earl Charles Spencer has long highlighted Althorp’s history.
Diana was initially meant to be buried in the Spencer family vault at nearby Great Brington.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex recently visited Althorp with Archie and Lilibet, carrying floral tributes.
The estate opens July 1, Diana’s birthday, and closes at the end of August.

Earl Spencer is to publish a new book telling the life story of his sister, Diana, Princess of Wales, from his perspective.
The book Swan Song: Diana, My Sister will hit UK shelves next month, almost 30 years after her death.
"I want to speak on Diana's behalf and do so in an openly positive way," Earl Spencer said of his reasons for writing the book.
He added, "A one-off, dynamic character, full of love, charisma and self-doubt, who gave life a hell of a go, and left the world a far better place, despite exiting the stage while still so young."
Earl Spencer said the approaching 30th anniversary of Diana’s death prompted him to write down his own memories rather than see more “untruths” repeated about his sister.
"The aim of this book is to tell the truth about Diana from her brother's perspective, just as I attempted to do when speaking at her funeral," he shared.
Earl Spencer said he hopes the book will preserve Diana’s memory and help younger generations understand who she truly was.
