Investigators are looking into the sudden death of 50-year-old Southwest Airlines flight attendant Jenny Lupton. She was found dead after an apparent fall from a 24th-floor hotel balcony during a work layover in Waikiki, Hawaii.
The final text message
Lupton’s family revealed the final text message she sent to a coworker late at night. Her niece Hannah shared, “She was even texting one of the other flight attendants asking, ‘What are we doing tomorrow?’” Relatives say this message shows she was looking forward to the next day.
Uncluttered room and high railing
Family members point to details inside her room that rule out self-harm. Her belongings in the bathroom “looked like she was getting ready to go out,” and her balcony layout remained untouched.
Hannah stated, “The patio furniture was not moved, so she wouldn’t have been able to climb on that and that’s another thing that shows us it’s not a suicide.” She added, “And the railing of the balcony is pretty high. And Jenny is not a very tall person, she’s 5’1.”
Family demands answers
Lupton’s family believes foul play or a tragic accident caused her fall. Her sister Tresa said:
“We strongly believe that she didn’t do this intentionally and so that leads us to think it was either some kind of freak accident or someone harmed her.”
Ongoing investigation
Honolulu police homicide detectives are actively reviewing camera footage and waiting for autopsy results to determine what happened.
