Nintendo has officially launched the latest update for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, bringing the fighting game to variant 13.0.5 on Nintendo Switch.
The patch is considered to be a smaller one; however, it acknowledges a problem affecting the online combat.
As per Nintendo’s patch notes, the update fixes behaviour that takes place when invalid data is sent or received during online battles.
No other gameplay changes or new features have been announced as part of the update.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate patch notes
Version 13.0.5 is particularly notable because it marks the game’s first update in more than a year. The previous version, 13.0.4, was released in June 2025.
Players should also be aware of potential replay compatibility issues after downloading the recently introduced update. Replays recorded between variants 9.0.0 and 13.0.4 may experience compatibility issues, while replays from variant 8.1.0 and earlier remain incompatible.
Nintendo strongly advised players who want to preserve older replays convert them into videos ahead of downloading the variant 13.0.5.
This can be done by navigating to Vault → Replays → Replay Data → Convert to Video within the game.
The newest patch comes as Nintendo continues launching updates for multiple Switch games. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Pikmin 3 Deluxe have also released updates this week, including enhancements related to Nintendo Switch 2.
For Super Smash Bros. Ultimate layers, however, variant 13.0.5 is mainly focused on enhancing the stability of online combat instead of launching the latest content.
