The New York Giants faced a massive setback on Monday night as starting quarterback Jaxson Dart left the game with a knee injury during a 28-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium.
On the opening drive of the game, Dart dropped back on third-and-8 and delivered a deep pass under heavy pressure. As he released the ball, Rams defenders Byron Young and Josaiah Stewart delivered a sandwich hit, causing Dart’s left knee to bend inward awkwardly.
Dart grabbed his knee in visible pain before limping off the field under his own power to enter the medical blue tent. He was subsequently taken to the locker room and officially ruled out at halftime, later appearing on the sideline in street clothes.
Initial testing hints at MCL Sprain with MRI scheduled next
Initial X-rays came back negative and preliminary reports indicate that Dart likely sustained an MCL sprain, avoiding a season-ending structural injury.
Head coach John Harbaugh noted that the diagnosis was “in the neighborhood” of an MCL sprain, confirming that a full MRI is scheduled to evaluate the exact severity.
General Manager Joe Schoen expressed reassurance, confirming that Dart “is going to be OK,” though the quarterback is expected to miss game time.
In Dart’s absence, veteran backup Jameis Winston stepped in, completing 11 of 27 passes for 111 yards and an interception as the offense struggled to find momentum.
The injury comes at a tough moment for the second-year starter, who had kicked off the season with a historic performance against the Cowboys.
The Giants now head home to prepare for their upcoming matchup against the Tennessee Titans while awaiting full medical updates.
