The US Navy aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln arrived at Laem Chabang port near Pattaya, Thailand, on Wednesday. The arrival marked the ship’s first major port visit after spending 286 days – more than nine consecutive months – at sea.
The aircraft carrier docked alongside accompanying warships including the destroyer USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. and the cruiser USS Robert Smalls.
Crew prepares for shore leave
Roughly 5,000 sailors and Marines aboard the nuclear-powered vessel are slated to disembark in groups for long-awaited rest and recuperation.
Shuttle buses are transporting service members into nearby Pattaya, a coastal city famous for its bustling nightlife and beachfront resorts. Local business owners and hospitality venues welcomed the arrival anticipating a short-term economic boost.
Extended deployment in the Middle East
The Lincoln initially deployed from San Diego in late 2025 for a standard tour. However, its mission was extended significantly as it operated in the Middle East to support US strategic operations and regional maritime security.
The grueling 250-plus consecutive days at sea set a modern record for uninterrupted deployment without a full port visit.

Thai authorities and US military leadership have implemented strict safety guidelines for the crew during their five-day visit. Local officials stepped up security patrols around entertainment districts while establishing clear off-limits rules for military personnel.
Heading home soon
Having been relieved in the Middle East by the USS George Washington, the USS Abraham Lincoln’s stop in Thailand serves as its primary operational pause before the carrier strike group begins its voyage back to its homeport in the United States.
