Ryan Reynolds has revealed he has no interest in throwing a “huge” birthday bash as he prepares to turn, joking that he already gets “enough attention.”
During the Mayday premiere at Lincoln Center AMC on August 31, the Deadpool & Wolverine star revealed to PEOPLE how birthdays are celebrated in his family.
As he prepares to turn 50 on October 23, Reynolds admitted he would prefer to keep the celebrations low-key.
“I don’t like birthdays. I mean, I’m fine with it,” he said, before adding, “I don’t bemoan a birthday, but I’m not like, ‘Hey, let’s have a huge party for me.’ ”
The Green Lantern star added, “I’m good. I get enough attention. I was just on a red carpet. This is plenty.”
“I’m in Birthday Alley. My kids, we have about four of our family members all just back-to-back to back-to-back,” he said, adding, “It’s Birthday Alley, and it goes right on into Christmas. Ceaseless.”
“Basically, yeah, to my 50th birthday. I mean, crazy,” he continued, saying, “I’m mostly breathing in helium all day, filling balloons, emptying balloons, filling more balloons. That is Birthday Alley.”
Notably, their family has a busy stretch of celebrations each year, with four birthdays falling within 113 days and their wedding anniversary on September 9.
The candid admission comes after his wife, Blake Lively, celebrated her 39th birthday on August 25, with Reynolds marking the occasion with a sweet Instagram tribute.
“August 25th is this family’s Super Bowl™️. Happy Birthday to the very best human I know,” he captioned snaps of him and Lively.
Reynolds added, “You’re not just another courageous and deeply kind genius. You’re also unreasonably cute.”
“I know how lucky I am that you were born. Every time I’ve ever hit my head, it’s YOUR life that flashes before my eyes,” he concluded.
