ABC has pushed back against a report claiming Jimmy Kimmel Live! is set to end after its upcoming season.
According to a Page Six report on Tuesday, September 8, Jimmy Kimmel Live! was set to wrap up after its current season.
An ABC Entertainment representative dismissed the report, stating, “This information is inaccurate - any reports about the future of the show at this point are purely speculative.”
Notably, in a June 2026 interview with Vulture, he discussed increasing scrutiny he faces from the president.
“One of the things we talked about when I first got suspended was that I can’t do this show if I’m going to be micromanaged,” Kimmel said.
He said late-night TV has more viewers than ever, pointing to the growing online and television audiences.
Addressing attacks on the format, he added, “We’re not just dying of natural causes. We’re being poisoned.”
He continued, admitting, “Professionally, I have no idea what I’m going to do after this... Freedom is what I want more than anything. I want to be able to go fishing because the fishing’s good.”
Jimmy Kimmel Live! face hiatus
The clarification comes almost a year after Jimmy Kimmel Live! and its host were placed on an indefinite hiatus.
ABC took Jimmy Kimmel Live! off the air in September 2025 after Kimmel discussed the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk at a Utah Valley University event.
Two days later, the outlet confirmed to PEOPLE that Jimmy Kimmel Live! had been put on an indefinite pause after Nexstar Media preempted the show, a move praised by FCC Chairman Brendan Carr and President Donald Trump.
Nexstar Media said it “strongly objects” to Kimmel’s comments about Charlie Kirk’s killing and would replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets.
A week after the suspension, Disney announced that Jimmy Kimmel Live! would return on Tuesday, September 23, following discussions with Kimmel over his comments about Kirk’s assassination.
