Dwayne Johnson is reflecting on a heartbreaking realization.
The Smashing Machine actor took to Instagram on Tuesday, September 8, to share an emotional statement, noting that he has come to realize “a few things in life.”
In the post, he shared Variety’s article, which announced his upcoming movie Free Byrd, titled “Dwayne Johnson to star as motorcycle stuntman with dementia in ‘Free Byrd’ from two-time Academy Award nominee (Sing Sing, Train Dreams) Greg Kwedar.”
Writing an emotional statement, the 54-year-old American actor reflected on how “deeply soul stirring” dementia is, stating, “I’ve come to realize a few things in life. One of them is how deeply soul stirring, and heart aching this disease is as it grips so many of us.”
“I’ve realized that it’s our most profound test of grace, to watch our loved one, slip away. And despite how protective, caring and loving our hands are, there’s nothing we can do. Except keep them as happy as we can. For as long as we can,” he continued.
The Moana star went on to note, “My journey with writer/director @gkwedar has already been life changing. A deepening bond through the experience of this disease, that will live far beyond this film. Thank you brother.”
He also expressed gratitude to Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and their production label Artists Equity for staying by Greg Kwedar and his side.
“Embracing our project, and embracing this subject with unconditional love and humanity. Shoulder to shoulder. May the sunspots guide us. We look forward to sharing this with all of you. FREE BYRD,” the statement concluded.
