Following a high-stakes Thursday Night Football matchup, Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell delivered a raw, emotional interview.

Visibly shaken and holding back tears, the star defender placed the responsibility for Detroit’s 41-31 loss to the Buffalo Bills squarely on his own shoulders.

Defense struggles early against high-powered Bills

The contest at New Highmark Stadium started on a rough note for Detroit. Buffalo stormed out to a 21-0 lead, shredding the Lions’ defense for 446 total yards of offense including 203 yards on the ground.

Josh Allen threw for touchdowns and rushed for two more, repeatedly exploiting defensive gaps. Although Detroit rallied in the second half to cut the deficit to 10 points, they couldn’t complete the comeback, falling to a 1-1 record.

Campbell refuses to offer excuses

Despite an injury-plagued secondary and a short week, Campbell refused to rationalize the defensive breakdown. He posted six tackles and a quarterback hit but felt his individual play fell far short of standards.

“I played terrible. It starts with me and I feel like it’s on me,” Campbell said, his voice cracking. “I gotta be better. I have no other thing to do but look in the mirror and be better.”

Looking ahead to Week 3

Campbell’s raw accountability resonated with teammates in the locker room with linebacker Derrick Barnes noting it pushed the rest of the unit to evaluate their own performance.

Head coach Dan Campbell emphasized that while the loss was painful, it served as a clear baseline for where the team must improve. The Lions now get extended rest before returning home to host the New York Jets.
