Lehigh University has suspended all men’s swim team activities after reports of hazing surfaced in the program. The suspension took effect on September 15, 2026, and remains in place while an investigation continues.

A university spokesperson confirmed the decision to SwimSwam. Officials said acts of hazing go against the values of the Lehigh community. The school is working to create a safer and more inclusive environment for student-athletes and the wider campus.
All practices, competitions and team-related events for the men’s swimming program are currently on hold. No further details about the specific allegations have been released publicly.
Past issues with the program
This is not the first time the Lehigh swimming program has faced hazing concerns. In 2020, the team received a disciplinary warning after allegations that members were ordered to take part in punishment swims at 3 a.m. Athletes were also required to complete educational training on hazing prevention.
Lehigh strictly bans hazing under its policies. Violations can lead to university discipline and possible criminal charges under Pennsylvania’s Timothy J. Piazza Antihazing Law.
Team performance and next steps
Last season, the Lehigh men placed sixth out of 10 teams at the Patriot League Championships with 560 points. The team finished ahead of rivals including Holy Cross, Lafayette, Colgate and American.
The university has not announced a timeline for completing the investigation or when team activities might resume. Officials say they will continue to prioritize the health and safety of students. Updates are expected as the probe moves forward.
