During Game 2 of the WNBA playoff series between the Las Vegas Aces and Indiana Fever at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, superstar forward A’ja Wilson was involved in a tense courtside confrontation with a fan.
Fourth-quarter altercation stirs arena
The incident occurred late in the fourth quarter with 4:10 remaining after Wilson drew a foul against Fever wing Sophie Cunningham. Walking toward the baseline, Wilson abruptly confronted a male fan sitting courtside, removing her mouthguard and yelling as she approached him.
Game officials and teammates intervened to separate Wilson from the spectator. Referees reviewed the sequence and handed Wilson a technical foul. Security briefly escorted the spectator from his seat, though arena officials ultimately allowed him to return after concluding no facility rules were broken.
Post-game reactions and game outcome
Following the Aces’ 99-89 loss, Wilson addressed the exchange during her press conference expressing that the fan stepped toward her and pointed in an aggressive manner.
“I don’t give a damn what you said, I don’t give a damn how you said it. That is unacceptable,” Wilson told reporters, emphasizing that stepping toward players crosses a line.
Aces head coach Becky Hammon noted she had never seen Wilson react that way, adding that disrespect has no place in the arena.
Wilson posted 22 points and nine rebounds but the Indiana Fever secured the victory to tie the series and force a deciding Game 3.
