King Charles ‘doing fantastic’ despite cancer shock, Lionel Ritchie confirms

King Charles is ‘doing fantastic’ as his battle with cancer continues, singer Lionel Richie revealed at the King’s Trust Global Gala in New York on Thursday, May 2.

Richie, the King’s Trust Global Ambassador and Chairman of the Global Ambassadors Group, got candid with People magazine about the King’s condition at the inaugural King’s Trust Gala on Thursday, which saw many Hollywood A-listers on the red carpet.

In an exclusive update about King Charles, the Hello singer told People: “Happily, I can say, he is doing fantastic. Again, I understand, he needs to sit still, you know what I’m saying…”

Richie added, “The most important part is he is doing well. He’s back to his duties and so therefore, I wouldn’t want the first thing for him to do is come over — let’s not prove anything here.”

The Grammy winner further iterated, “We are here to represent and we’re gonna do a great job of that,” before sharing that he was expecting a call from King Charles after the event, and that he would “want to know all about how the evening went. “

“Believe me, my question [from him] now is, ‘How was it?’ After I finish tonight, I’m gonna get that call saying, ‘Well, how was it?’” Richie quipped.

King Charles notably underwent a surgery for an enlarged prostate earlier this year, which ultimately led to his cancer diagnosis in February; the monarch took a backseat from his royal duties after the news, but is now making a comeback to public facing duties, starting with a visit to a cancer center this week with Queen Camilla.
