McLaren’s Lando Norris finally won the F1 Miami Grand Prix for the first time on Sunday, May 5, after five years and 110 races.
According to Sky Sports, Norris beat three-time world champion and Red Bull racer Max Verstappen in his first Formula One victory with a lead of just seven seconds.
Meanwhile, the Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc finished in third with a gap of 10 seconds.
Norris's victory was followed by a wild celebration by his team, who lifted him on the shoulders in the pit lane.
After winning the title, Norris while fighting back tears expressed, “About time! What a race. It's been a long time coming. Finally, I've managed to do it. I'm so happy for my whole team. I finally delivered for them.”
He further added, “Long day, tough race. Finally, on top, so I'm over the moon. I'm just proud. A lot of people doubted me along the way. I've made a lot of mistakes over the last five years in my short career, but today we put it all together."
Verstappen, while congratulating Norris, said, “You win, you lose. Today was a bit tricky with the medium tyres. When I heard the lap times the McLarens were doing, I thought, yeah, that’s pretty quick; Lando was flying. I’m very happy for Lando; it’s been a long time coming, and it’s not going to be his last victory. He definitely deserves it today."
