King Carl Gustaf XVI of Sweden has issued a statement after another school attack shakes the country.
On Friday, August 21, the official Instagram account of the Swedish Royal Family shared a personal message from the King after a former student attacked his school with a sword, killing one and injuring three.

"It is with dismay and sadness that we received the message that Sweden has once again been hit by a school bombing. My thoughts are with those closest to those affected, their families and relatives," Carl wrote in his message as he expressed concern over the escalating attacks in Sweddish schools.
He continued, "I would also like to express my understanding of the concern that this causes for students, school staff, parents in Fagersta and our entire society."
The statement was signed by Carl Gustaf, suggesting that the message was shared by the King personally.
What happened in the Fagersta school attack?
One person was killed in a sword attack at the Brineel School in Fagersta on Friday.
Following the shocking incident, which also injured three others, an 18-year-old boy, identified so far as just a former student of the school, was arrested and detained.
Eight other schools in the area were placed under lockdown measures, which have now been lifted, while a state of high alert was declared in the Västmanland region after the attack.
Sweden has experienced a number of attacks on educational institutions in recent years.
The country experienced its worst-ever mass shooting in 2025, where 11 people, including the gunman, died at an adult education centre in Örebro, prompting the country to tighten gun laws.
