As the reunion with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is getting nearer day by day, King Charles III can not hold his excitement to welcome his distant son once again.
His Majesty is determined not to leave any stone unturned in the reconciliation of the Sussexes with his eldest son, Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton.
In between, Charles, 77, received an unexpected request to remove his royal name from one of his beloved pets, who featured in royal paintings from the 16th to 18th centuries.
A few days before Harry and Meghan's arrival in the United Kingdom after nearly six years, PETA has asked the monarch to remove his name from the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
In a letter to Buckingham Palace, they argued that the royal association lends prestige to a breed it says has been affected by generations of selective breeding.
PETA president Ingrid Newkirk called on the King to publicly distance himself from the breed and encourage the removal of 'King Charles' from its name.
"The royal name, like the royal warrant, lends prestige to this beleaguered breed and helps make it desirable," she wrote.
Notably, the animal foundation also raised concerns about neurological problems, difficulty walking and, in some cases, paralysis.
King Cavalier breed has long association with monarchy
In a latest tweet, the organisers specified that, "Did your "healthy" purebred puppy have hidden health problems you were never warned about? One family's devastating experience with a King Cavalier puppy is now at the centre of her lawsuit against Petland."
For those unaware, the pet has a long association with the British monarchy, as the small toy has been linked to Charles II and the Cavaliers, supporters of the monarchy during the English Civil War.
Prince Harry and Prince William's reunion buzz
So far, King Charles III has not responded to the request as he is currently spending quality time with the royals as part of their summer holiday retreat at Balmoral Castle.
The king is also expecting his two sons, Prince Harry and Prince William, to join him during the family holidays.
But due to the Prince and Princess of Wales's rigidity towards the reconciliation with the Duke of Sussex, it is unclear whether the fans could witness the historic reunion in the coming days.
