Newcastle United have submitted a firm proposal worth €45 million including add-ons to sign Lille’s 21-year-old attacker Matias Fernandez-Pardo. According to L’Équipe, “A deal worth €45m including bonuses is said to be on the table” as the Magpies look to strengthen their attack ahead of the new season.
Rising star in demand
The versatile Belgian international can play on either wing or as a central forward. Having made 41 appearances for Lille last season, he recorded eight goals and seven assists, earning a reputation as “an exciting 21-year-old who can play across the front three” and a player with “an extremely high ceiling.”
Player pushes for transfer
Despite Lille securing UEFA Champions League football, reports indicate “the forward does not wish to continue his time with the northern club.”
While he wants to avoid a feud, French media note “the forward is reportedly less committed and has occasionally been late for training sessions” to signal his desire for a Premier League move.
Stand-off over price
Lille remain reluctant to sell without securing a replacement first. French sources report that “LOSC chairman Olivier Letand, for his part, does not wish to part ways with Fernandez-Pardo” and holds out for a fee closer to €70 million.
Battle for signature
Newcastle are pushing hard to beat rival interest from across Europe, as “Atletico Madrid and RB Leipzig are also reportedly interested in securing the services of the 21-year-old” before the transfer window closes.
