A massive fire has erupted at an industrial estate on Hannah Close in Neasden located less than a mile from Wembley Stadium in northwest London.
The London Fire Brigade sent 20 fire engines and around 125 firefighters to tackle the well-developed blaze at a waste transfer facility after receiving over 90 emergency calls starting around 11:34 AM.
Massive emergency response deployed
Firefighting teams were dispatched from nearby stations including Wembley, Park Royal and Willesden, alongside high-reach ladder trucks and a drone team. A large industrial unit measuring approximately 100 meters by 150 meters caught alight.
The London Fire Brigade issued a warning to local residents, stating, “Residents in the immediate area should close doors and windows, remaining inside where possible, due to the large amount of smoke being produced.”
Heavy smoke and transport chaos
Plumes of thick black smoke rose into the sky, visible from miles away across London. The emergency led to major travel disruption across the city’s transport network.
The London Underground suspended the entire Metropolitan line and halted Jubilee line services between Willesden Green and Wembley Park due to the nearby blaze.
Firefighters face long battle
Official investigations into how the fire started are ongoing. High-volume pumps were brought in to deliver extra water to crews fighting the stubborn flames.
Describing the ongoing efforts, Assistant Commissioner Pennick stated that it is a “protracted incident that will see crews on scene for the remainder of the day as they work to fully extinguish the fire.” No casualties have been reported.
