At least six people were injured on Friday afternoon after a sign fell at the Big Church Festival in West Sussex. The sudden collapse caused a massive emergency response at Wiston Park in Steyning.
Accident at the venue
The incident happened around 3:30 PM at the annual Christian gathering. Eyewitnesses reported that a large sign collapsed onto people at the site off Washington Road.
Emergency responders arrive quickly
Police and paramedics rushed to the scene right away. A spokesperson said, “South East Coast Ambulance Service was called to reports of multiple people in need of medical attention at Wiston Park, Steyning shortly after 15.30hrs today.”
Paramedics, critical care crews and specialist response units worked on site to treat those hurt.

Officers secured the surrounding area to allow medical teams to work. A Sussex Police spokesman stated:
“Emergency services are currently responding to an incident at an event near Steyning. It follows reports of a sign having fallen and injured a number of people at the site in Washington Road.”
