Elena Rybakina has eased fears about her fitness ahead of the US Open by saying she has confidence in the recent rehabilitation process she has undergone.

According to Sports Star, the world No. 2 is on track to play at the US ‌Open as she recovers from a leg injury suffered at the Cincinnati Open earlier this month.

The twice Grand Slam winner retired in the ‌first set of her Cincinnati quarterfinal match against Iga Swiatek ‌on August 20 with an ‌ankle problem.

The setback occurred less than two weeks ago on August 21st and left the Kazakh struggling to walk for a couple of days afterwards. At the time, Rybakina said the issue had been ‘bothering her for a long time,’ but she managed to keep it under control.

Elena Rybakina ‘quite confident’ ahead of US Open

Rybakina told reporters at Flushing Meadows, “I’m quite confident with the decision we are making each day about how to practise, what to do, and especially what can ‌happen in the worst-case scenario. So, all these things I feel quite confident about. I just feel like it’s just a few more days, and I should be very fine.”

The 27-year-old recalled that the it was painful to walk for a couple ‌of days after suffering the injury, but she is glad with how her recovery process is going.

The Kazakhstani player said on Saturday, August 29, “We will see what’s going to happen in the next few days, ‌but for now it’s been well. I always want to go on court when I’m 100 per cent sure, and it’s the last slam of the year, so I think everyone will want to ‌try to compete.”

Rybakina is set to open her US Open campaign against American Thea Frodin on Tuesday, September 1.
