Chinese bantamweight star Song Yadong delivered a career-defining performance at UFC Shanghai, knocking out top contender Umar Nurmagomedov.
Playing the home-field favorite inside the Oriental Sports Center, Song stopped the Dagestani fighter just 1 minute and 48 seconds into the second round.
Tough early wrestling
The bout opened with classic Nurmagomedov control. Umar caught an early leg kick, dragging the Chinese fighter to the canvas. Though Song threatened briefly with a guillotine choke, Umar broke free, passed to half guard and dominated ground control for most of the opening frame.
The explosive counter strike
The momentum swung drastically in the second round. After an accidental head clash left Song bloodied, the local hero brushed off the damage and stuffed a takedown attempt.
