Princess Ingrid Alexandra made royal history as she stood alongside her father, King Haakon, during his official oath-taking ceremony at Norway’s parliament.

In her mother, Queen Mette-Marit of Norway, absence, the 22-year-old took on the role of first lady, sitting beside her father near the throne.

She completed the historic occasion with a fascinator and small veil, marking her most important official engagement and the start of her new role as Crown Princess.

The royal family of Norway also shared the glimpses of the magnificent ceremony on Instagram, as it is the first time that the future heiress has taken the oath alongside the new monarch.

In a caption a palace wrote, “Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra took a written oath to uphold the Constitution. The oath was signed at the Royal Palace and delivered to the Storting.”

The palace added, “His Majesty the King took his oath at the Storting earlier the same day.”

Seated on a golden throne, the new monarch read from a book as his 22-year-old daughter stood at his side.

Translated from Norwegian, the oath to the constitution reads: "I promise and swear to govern the Kingdom of Norway in accordance with its constitution and laws, so help me God the Almighty and the All-Knowing!"

He added: "The Queen and I confirm that we are available to carry out our duty for the country and the people."

Haakon took the throne last Friday when his father, King Harald, died.

Following the oath-taking, the president of the Storting paid tribute to King Harald before a minute’s silence and the royal anthem.

Queen Sonja and Prince Sverre Magnus followed the oath taking from the Storting Hall.

Notably, the ceremony was a major milestone for the Norwegian monarchy, marking Haakon VIII’s official start as king and Ingrid Alexandra’s new role as Crown Princess and first in line.
