Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands is celebrating the historic birth anniversary of her late husband, Prince Claus.
On Sunday, September 6th, the deceased Prince Consort would have turned 100 today if he had not died at the age of 76 on October 6th, 2002.
Every year, King Willem-Alexander and his mother paid heartfelt tribute to the late royal member, but this year the celebrations have taken to a new level.
The 59-year-old Dutch monarch – who has been reigning since April 30th 2013 has stepped out to the birthplace of Prince Claus to make his centenary memorable.
On the auspicious occasion, King Willem's office shared the deeply personal message that read, "Today is the 100th birthday of Prince Claus."
The statement continued, reflecting on the late monarch’s life and legacy, stating, "Claus von Amsberg was born on September 6, 1926, in Dötzingen, municipality of Hitzacker, in Germany."
King Willem also revived the sweet childhood memories of Prince Claus, as he shared a throwback black-and-white photo with the late royal and his family.
In the caption, the palace's aides further mentioned that in the released birthday carousel, Claus is seen with his mother and oldest sister.
The grieving Queen also paid a heartfelt tribute to her partner as she revealed a bust of him in Hitzacker, Germany, shortly after he died in 2002.

"After the death of Prince Claus in 2002, Queen Beatrix revealed a bust of him in Hitzacker in 2005 (6 & 7)," the official royal statement read.
In 2014, Princess Beatrix also opened the Prinz-Claus-Promenade in the same city where she revealed his bust.
"On the occasion of the 100th birthday of Prince Claus, King Willem-Alexander, Princess Beatrix and Prince Constantijn visit his birthplace today," the Dutch royal family announced.
Who was Prince Claus?
Prince Claus of the Netherlands was a German diplomat who became the prince consort of the Netherlands after tying the knot with Princess Beatrix of Netherlands in March 1966.
Beatrix later served as the Queen of the Netherlands from 1980 until her abdication in 2013.
The royal couple also shares three kids Willem-Alexander, Friso, and Constantijn.

The Dutch Royal House released an official news item confirming that King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima, Princess Beatrix, and the Princess of Orange (Crown Princess Catharina-Amalia) will travel to Oslo to attend the service at Oslo Cathedral on Wednesday, September 9th.
